EUROTOX 2024 Congress

We were excited to attend the EUROTOX 2024 Congress, which took place in Copenhagen, 8th – 11th September.

The 2024 congress’ theme was “Toxicology – A Quest for safe Chemicals and Medicines” – reflected in the congress programme with topics including:

  • Dealing with safety of drugs and environmental chemicals.
  • New and emerging technologies.
  • Personalised medicine.
  • Human health effects caused by exposure to chemicals.
  • Safety issues arising from climate changes.

Monday 9th September

We held an industry hosted session discussing:

Leveraging NAMs to optimise and accelerate safety assessments for carcinogenicity and other complex endpoints

This talk was hosted by Senior Application Scientist, Toni Rogers and Principal Scientist, Alex Cayley, they discussed:

  • The value of using a weight-of-evidence approach to optimise and expediate safety.
  • How Lhasa’s novel in silico solution Kaptis enables confident and informed safety decisions through contextualising NAMs within an AOP framework.
  • The impact of this approach through case studies for:

We also had three scientific poster sessions throughout Monday:

Principal Scientist, Alex Cayley and Scientist, Victor Ude presented a poster titled ‘Screening for developmental and reproductive toxicity (DART) using a suite of In Silico models contextualised on an adverse outcome pathway (AOP) network’. Poster number P05-10.

In addition, Scientist, Pooja Tomar presented a poster titled ‘Refining the High Potency Category rules to enhance the accuracy of exposure-based waiving arguments within a Next Generation Risk Assessment for skin sensitisation. Poster number P05-13.

Application Scientist, Jack Lupton presented a poster titled ‘Using expert knowledge to re-evaluate the sensitisation potential of quaternary ammonium salts’. Poster number P05-27.

Tuesday 10th September

Tasha Jones presented a short oral presentation on ‘Contextualising in vitro NAMs on a Network of AOPs to Improve Immunotoxicity Safety Assessments’ in the Cinema room.
